Underrepresented Groups Travel Awards
As part of an initiative to increase diversity in auditory and vestibular research, the Midwest Auditory Research Conference (MARC) will provide travel awards to 25 trainees from underrepresented groups who are presenting research at the MARC.
Details
Eligibility:
Applicants must be current students or postdoctoral fellows from groups underrepresented in science and who are presenting research at the conference. Inclusion in an underrepresented group may be based on, but is not limited to, the following: race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or coming from a disadvantaged background.
Application:
Interested trainees should submit an application that includes the following:

A cover letter that provides contact information for the applicant and the title of the applicant’s MARC abstract.

A one-page (single-spaced, 11pt font) statement that describes the trainee’s eligibility for the award, professional goals, how attending the conference will benefit the trainee, and financial need for the award.

A faculty mentor should email a letter of support to the MARC Committee no later than Friday, April 29, 2022. Letters should be sent to lisasteb@umich.edu with applicant’s name in the subject line.
Submission Instructions and Deadline:

Proposals for this award must be submitted electronically as a single PDF and emailed to lisasteb@umich.edu with abstract title and applicant’s name in the subject line no later than Friday, April 29, 2022.

Only complete applications, submitted by Friday, April 29, 2022, will be considered for awards. Applications will be reviewed by members of the MARC Committee. Awards will be made on a competitive basis with consideration given to applicants’ financial need.
Award Announcement and Disbursement
Award recipients will be notified by Friday, May 13, 2022. Recipients will be expected to attend the MARC reception during the conference during which they will be publicly recognized. The travel award will be disbursed by reimbursing expenses following the conference. Recipients will be required to maintain receipts to document their expenses. All receipts should be emailed to lisasteb@umich.edu and will be due on Wednesday, June 29, 2022. Any receipts submitted after June 29,2022 will not be reimbursed.
